Good website to find interesting stuff — eater
Stuff near you
https://www.starbellysf.com/ — pizza, etc(the corn pizza is great! — if they still have it)
https://www.yelp.com/biz/dumpling-house-san-francisco — good dim sum.
https://www.yelp.com/biz/kitchen-story-san-francisco — very good thai, but kinda pricey
https://www.yelp.com/biz/willkommen-san-francisco-3 — german food
places on 18th — mama jis (chinese 18 & eureka), handroll project & tartine @ 18th & Guerrero
West Portal — take any train west from the subway station at 17th & castro. West portal is the 2nd stop. Lots of stuff to check out on west portal ave, but lazy susan is updated american-chinese food. Bulls head is a old school diner with buffalo burgers
Noe Valley — walk on castro to 24th (huge hill though) or catch train going south @ church & 18th and take to 24th. Lots of great stuff. I’ve been wanting to try this russian place —
22 — the 22 is a great bus near you. runs every 7 minutes or so. You can catch it at church & market (or church & 16th). Take it east/south to chase center and there is a great dim sum place — https://www.dumplingtime.com/. Or take it the end of the line and there is a big food truck park (can be super busy on weekends) — https://sparksocialsf.com/. Take it the 22 north to the marina. I generally get off at broadway and walk down hill because it is scenic. A good place to try in marina is https://www.yelp.com/biz/nippon-curry-featuring-hinoya-curry-san-francisco?osq=japanese+curry — japanese curry similar to meat + gravy, a homey/not fancy meal.
N-Line — catch at church & duboce. 2nd stop is cole valley, a very nice small hood. https://www.yelp.com/biz/zazie-san-francisco is a great breakfast place, known for pancakes, very long waits for table on weekends, back yard is best but wait could be long. On weekends, this is a good brunch place that is easier to get in —
N-Line takes you to 9th & irving too — pacific catch(mid priced seafood), um ma (korean), manna(korean), fiorella (italian) and blacktorn irish bar. N-Line goes to ocean beach too
Bernal Heights
Main street is cortland avenue. Unique neighborhood of small houses on small streets. Park at top of bernal hill has nice views (as do many of the streets). Walking to part from cortland would be interesting. Probably best to uber here. To get home could walk down cortland to mission on way home and take the bus to 18th. A couple of interesting places :
Shokudo — https://www.yelp.com/biz/shokudou-san-francisco-5
Wild Side West — best backyard in SF if it is a nice day. Like a garden retreat
Mission/Bernal
Bottom of bernal hill on mission or precita park (cool park)
https://www.yelp.com/biz/marlena-restaurant-san-francisco — nice place in neighborhoody location
https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-front-porch-san-francisco — good fried chicken,
http://www.blueplatesf.com/ — great meatloaf and fried chicken
https://www.yelp.com/biz/royal-cuckoo-san-francisco — one of my fav bars, very, very funky. Nice back yard too
Mission
Rosamunde — good sausages & beer — https://www.yelp.com/biz/rosamunde-sausage-grill-san-francisco-2
Wes Burger — 18th & mission - good burgers & tater tots -https://www.yelp.com/biz/wesburger-n-more-san-francisco
https://www.yelp.com/biz/fenikkusu-san-francisco — great omakase at a good price ($50)
https://www.yelp.com/biz/san-ho-won-san-francisco-2 — Great korean place, hard to get in
https://www.berettasf.com/valencia-1/ — pizza, charcuterie — definitely get the walnut bread with burrata and honey
https://store.dandelionchocolate.com/pages/home — super fancy chocolate on valencia between 18 & 19
https://www.yelp.com/biz/poc-chuc-san-francisco — different take on mexican, divey. I like the poc chuc. Their mole is good
https://www.tacolicious.com/ — Nice tacos/margaritas on valencia between 18 & 19
https://www.flourandwater.com/ — very nice italian, would recommend getting pasta tasting menu
Hayes Valley — nice hood, easiest to get there on any east bound train at 17 & castro subway. Get off at Van ness station (2nd stop) and walk to hayes & franklin. Good places
https://www.amanosf.com/ — really good, mid priced italian
https://monsieurbenjamin.com/ — nice french place
https://www.richtablesf.com/ — my fav nice restaurant right now, get tasting menu or just try a bunch of stuff. not too expensive (for sf)
http://robinsanfrancisco.com/ — fav sushi spot, expensive though
https://www.truesake.com/ — very good sake store. If you want to try something really nice ask for kinka (about $40/bottle). If you have only had hot sake, you haven’t had the good stuff. Good sake is very, very smooth. Totally different than the hot stuff
best park in SF — fort funston —
Cable car + russian hill italian restaurant + sliver of north beach + china town excursion — Take the Powell. & Hyde (vs Powell and Mason) cable car (get on at powell, clipper cards work for payment) to green & hyde to frascati — a nice neighborhood italian place. After dinner walk uphill on green — only the first block is big hill. Green will end and turn into a staircase going down in a couple of blocks. Stay on green till you get to stockton (it is a confusing intersection) make a right on stockton. You will cross into china town when you cross broadway. Stay on stockton till you get to jackson. Turn left on jackson, then right on grant (one block). If you want to check out a dive bar, Li Po lounge on grant is cool. At washington, turn left and walk 1/4 block to waverly. Think it is nicest street in china town. Mr Jius is on waverly and is great…but you probably can’t get in. When waveryly ends, go back to grant and take it out of china town (you will be back downtown then)
